Sunday 29th October - Barby Moorings
Today we have closed up the flat and driven across to Barby Moorings where we shall spend a couple of nights preparing the boat for a month’s cruise along the North Oxford Canal, the Ashby Canal and back again.
Monday 30th October - Barby Moorings
We had a log delivery from a local log company, two barrel bags of small logs which will be ideal for our small wood burner.
We drove into Daventry to do a shop for the boat and found a shop which sells zero waste products which we shall use to top up all our cleaning products.
We filled the boat up with water and we are all set for an early start tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed for a good day, it will be the first time we have taken Ella out of this Marina, so a bit of a steep learning curve!
Tuesday 31st October - Barby Moorings to Onley Fieldes Bridge 79
Delayed our start this morning as it was a little wet, but eventually set off. Dave opened the bridge and we moved through it with no problem. Getting off our mooring is a little difficult as it is quite tight and the sides are silted up. I think there hasn’t been much movement on the mooring before us. We turned left out of the Moorings and headed down to Dunchurch Pools Marina where we intend to fill up with diesel. After about 20 minutes the rain got heavier so we pulled over and moored up and have decided to stop here tonight.
The canal is fairly busy, we passed 2 boats on our journey and boats are passing us at regular intervals, some of which are hire boats from Braunston.

Wednesday 1st November - Onley Fieldes Bridge 79 to Dunchurch Pools Marina
This morning Dave broke his leg whilst walking Toby so he was taken to Coventry Hospital where he stayed for an operation to set the leg. I returned the boat to Barby Moorings with the help of Lizzie who came for support and Penny who helped get the boat back into our mooring.
